November 13-17

This was the last week of my internship, and I am graduating on Saturday! It was bitter sweet leaving the Senate and OU for the last time. I loved college, but at some point it's time to grow up. I spent my last day on Monday (since I had a final on Wednesday) doing my last bit of clippings and discussing with Malia (my supervisor) my future plans. I made and brought Christmas cookies for everyone I worked with and I hope they have a job opening at some point because I loved working there! I also ran a few errands around the senate, collecting checks from Senators for a charity this Christmas. All in all this was a great semester and I think learned more in my internship than any other class!

November 29-December 3

I cannot believe this semester is almost over and I will be graduating in two weeks!! We have been very slow at the Capitol, since all the furry from the recent election has subsided. I currently have finished all my press releases so this week on both days I worked on my clippings and designed some folders for Malia, Matt and Jennifer to send out to the new senators and congressman. I actually got to meet the Oklahoma GOP leader, a very nice guy. Both of theses days I was there from 8:30-12:30, just running errands for Malia. I have been very sick with Pertussis (who knew that even existed), and I think I am driving everyone in my office crazy with all my intense coughing sessions. But they are all so nice, so they will never say anything except ask me if I'm OK. The truth is, I'm starting to annoy myself.

Week 14, Nov. 22-26

Since Thursday was Thanksgiving the Senate was only at work on Monday and Tuesday, so therefore I only had to be there on Monday. On this day, I completed all my clippings, which I remember there was a lot for some reason. Then I had to make my final phone calls to senator's who hadn't responded to my press releases. I was there from 8:30-12:30, as usual.

Week 13, November 15-19

Twelfth week of my internship!! This week both days I finished my clippings, then worked on getting in touch with the senator's who hadn't written me back yet on my road releases. I called a few and e-mailed all of them. I heard back from everyone but two, so I went ahead and sent all the approved ones to the correct counties media outlets. Matt said I would have a pile of new press releases over Thanksgiving break....So my days will get a little busier! I have a job interview next week and Malia (my supervisor at the Senate) said she would be my main reference. I'm looking forward to graduating and working!

Week 12, November 8-12

This is week is week 12 of my internship. This week on Monday and Wednesday I of course did my ritual clippings, then worked sending out more press releases I had written to the appropriate senators. As soon as they wrote me back I sent them to the appropriate media outlets. I think this internship has greatly helped me associate myself with professionals at the upmost level. I don't know many interns who get to discuss issues with senators on a daily basis. It's my favorite part of my internship! Both days I was there from 8:30am-12:30pm finishing up my work.

Week 11, Nov. 1-5

Week 11 of my internship! This week all i did was my clippings everyday, and continued on my press releases. I wrote ten on one day, and eleven on the other day. I only have 13 left, which I should finish on Monday. Matt has been behind on looking at my press releases, so I haven't sent any out to the senator's yet, which will be my whole next week! Both days I was there from 8:30am-12:30pm.

Week 10, October 25-29

On Monday, I didn't have any press releases yet to write, so I did all my clippings for Matt and then basically job searched! On Wednesday, this day was eventful, I did all my clippings and then received stack of information from ODOT to write in press releases. Soon after I started on this there was a fire drill in which every single person in the Capitol had to go outside and stand (it was cold of course) for an hour outside. They then let us back in and I ran errands for Jennifer, another lady in my office, to Senator's executive assistants. I then started working on press releases again until 12:30.

Week 9, October 18-22

Both days on Monday and Wednesday I was at my internship from 8:30-12:30. This week was a little slower than the past few weeks. I did all my clippings at the beginning of each day, then reviewed my press releases, finished getting them approved and sent all them out to the appropriate media bases, in each Senator's district who had a press release written by me. I then responded to emails some media outlets sent me with any problems they may have regarding the press releases. I am ahead of schedule, getting all my press releases written, and currently there is nothing for me to write.

Week 8, October 11-15

I finished all my press releases this week! I worked on them on Monday, then wrote my last ten on Wednesday. I then started sending them to the Senators and the State Representatives to get them approved. Most of them just get approved right away, but if there's an error, I fix it, then send it to the appropriate media outlet. On Wednesday I did all my internet clippings and then just sent out press release after press release to the appropriate Senator. Now all I have to do is wait for them to be returned and then send them to the media outlets!

Week 7, October 4-8

The seventh week of my internship! almost half way finished....Both days this week I worked and worked on getting all those press releases written. Each day I was there from 8:30-12:30 just writing all these releases. I also did all my news and broadcast news clippings. Which is my favorite part of my day because not only am I working, but I'm also reading everything that's going on in Oklahoma news.

Week 6 September 27-October 1

I can't believe this was week six of my internship already! Time is flying. This week I was handing a brand new stack of press release information and have already almost finished it. I'm not really amused with these press releases because it is way too easy now. I want something a little harder, but hey since I've gotten so good at writing them, they will look good for when I apply for jobs! My life is extremely hectic working 40hrs a week bar-tending, working 8hrs a week at the Senate and taking 16hrs of school. But in December it will all be over! Writing press releases from 8:30-12:30, sending and discussing my press releases with the senators and executive assistants, then mailing them to the proper media outlets pretty much sums up my days. Oh, and doing all my news headlines and multimedia clippings, of course.

Week 5 Sept. 20-24

I can't believe this was already week five for school and internship. This week on both days all I did was work feverishly towards getting all my press releases done. Both Monday and Wednesday I stayed late trying to send all the ones I had written to Matt. It was a long two days, but with only nine left to write, life is looking better! I am still waiting on replies from a few senators so I can send all my press releases to the district media outlets their counties are in. My eyes hurt so bad when I leave work, but I know all these examples will look good with my resume! Oh, and I also did all my clippings both days.

Week 4

This is week four of my internship, Sept. 13-17. This week on both days all I did was write many many press releases. I wrote at least 20. After I e-mailed them all to the senators that approved them, their executive assistants send them back to me telling me if they are ok or not. Matt then taught me how to send them to all the newspapers, magazines, etc. So the media can then get my press releases released to the public! I did this on both days plus all my clippings. It was a busy week!

Week3, Sept. 6-10

This was a short week because of Labor Day, so I only had to work on Wednesday, Sept. 8. I got there at 8:30 and got all my clippings done. Then I wrote 8 press releases! They were all about roads and bridges getting rehabilitated all over the state. I got them all approved by Matt (the guy who I work with) and sent them out to all the senators to get them their final approval. I then left at 12:30.

Week 2, Aug. 30-Sept. 3

Day 3: This was the second week of my internship. I came at 8:30 and finished all my clippings by around 10. I was then given a stack of information about roads getting refurbished, bridges getting painted and fixed. There's going to be 25 press releases written and it's my duty to write them. Then send them to Matt, my editor, then he sends it back to me and I then send it to the senator and the State Representative who approved the grants. I then left at 12:45. Just to go to my other job at 4!

Day 4: Day four of my internship I worked and got finished with all my clippings from 8:30-10:30, then I wrote 3 press releases from the massive stack I have sitting on my desk. I then sent them Matt, then to the Senators in charge. I wrote all these till 12:30. I think I may start having to take them home in order to get them all finished!

8 hours and 15mins

Week 1, Aug. 23-27

Day 1: This is week one of my internship. I got there at 8:30 (luckily because traffic is terrible) Monday Aug. 23 and I was shown my desk and some of the duties I will be doing. Such as, going through every media Web site in the state finding anything written or put to video, stories about the state of Oklahoma, any of the senators or anything they may want to make a law about. I then take all these and post them to an E-mail, then send it out to all the senators and anyone working in media. This is all I learned and did the first day.

Day 2 Wed. Aug. 25: The second day I did all my clippings (as explained above)from 8:30-10:30, then I was given information about a new law going into effect. I then had to compose this into a press release and send it out to the Senator who approved the law. I left at 12:30.
